Laugh a Little or A Lot

There hasn't been a time when my sense of humor hasn't helped me in some way.  We all go through tough times now and then.  Now of course, you can't laugh during horrible situations.  But I do enjoy a good laugh, even at my own expense, and often.  When I was working in San Antonio at the Veteran's Affairs Hospital, my supervisor told me, "Laura, I don't think I've ever met anyone who laughs at themselves as much as you do."  I received it as a compliment (although I'm not sure if it was intended as one).  What better way to stay humble and laid back, then to chuckle at your own mistakes once in while.

Often, we hold ourselves to a standard of perfection.  I used to do that in my 20s.  Thinking that everything in my life had to be perfect otherwise it was an indication of some failure on my part.  Then in my 30s realized that was far from the truth.  No one is perfect.  Well there is one perfect person, God.  I've come to accept myself for everything that is me, imperfections and all.  This and keeping my sense of humor with me at all times, is why I'm living a life I love.

According to helpguide.org, laughter is also great for your health: relaxes the body, boosts the immune system, triggers the release of endorphins, and protects the heart.  I've even seen Laughter Yoga Clubs in the news.  Apparently there are thousands of these clubs all over the world.  Sounds like a blast!  I just want to attend one just to join in on the fun.

So don't take yourself so seriously.  Revel in the moment and keep a healthy perspective on things.  Even when you're in a dark place, try to remember that there is always someone who is suffering more than you are, somewhere else in the world.  Much love to you all and of course....keep laughing!
